AquaCelle Q10® – Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential cofactor in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of all cells and responsible for fueling all the chemical processes that allow the body to live and function properly. A vitamin-like compound, CoQ10 is present in all cells, residing predominantly within the inner membrane of the cells’ mitochondria. Mitochondria are the ‘powerhouse’ of a human cell and where ATP energy is produced. CoQ10 is most concentrated in organs with high energy demands such as the brain and heart.
In addition to helping produce ATP, CoQ10 also acts as a potent antioxidant, helping to protect mitochondria from the damaging free radicals generated during the ATP production process. This antioxidant protection is especially important to brain health, given its high concentration of mitochondria, significant energy demands, and susceptible high-fat content. CoQ10 is naturally produced in the body but levels are known to decrease as we age. Statin use for high blood pressure and environmental stressors have also been shown to deplete CoQ10 levels. While some CoQ10 is available through diet, research would suggest those quantities are not enough to support optimal energy production and antioxidant support as we age. Supplementing with CoQ10 can help optimize CoQ10 levels, but standard CoQ10 formulations are poorly absorbed.

Quatrefolic® – Folate

Folate is vital to DNA synthesis, red-blood-cell production, cell division, and the remethylation of homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine is a recognized biomarker associated with cardiovascular health and an increased risk of certain neurodegenerative disorders.
Quatrefolic® is the most advanced form of folate supplementation available on the market. It contains levomefolate glucosamine, a biologically active form of folate known as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTFH). Quatrefolic® offers increased stability and bioavailability over dietary folate, folic acid, and other calcium salt-based bio-active forms such as Metafolin.
Quatrefolic® achieves superior bio-availability due to folic acid, and dietary folate’s need to first be converted by the body into the metabolically active 5-MTFH form, before it may enter the body’s all-important folate cycle. Critical to this conversion process is an enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), which many individuals are inadequately able to produce due to their genetics.
